Junior National Athletics: Odisha win 7 medals

An 18-member Odisha squad bagged a total of seven medals in the 29th Junior National Athletics Championship, which was held at Kantirava Stadium in Bangalore from December 3 to 7. The medals included one gold, three silver and three bronze.

Chinmaya Ranjan Jena secured the lone gold medal in under-18 boys’ javelin throw with an effort of 65.09 metres. Rajeswari Bhoi of Sundargarh claimed a silver each in under-18 girls’ 100 metre hurdles (14.71 seconds) and heptathlon (4756 points).

Bikram Murmu secured the other silver by finishing second in under-14 boys` 100 metre sprint event, clocking 11.47 seconds. Damayanti Murmu of Bhubaneswar bagged a bronze in under-18 girls’ javelin, throwing the spear to a distance of 40.30 metres.

Sushita Kisan collected a bronze in under-20 girls` heptathlon, logging 3,983 points, while Salmi Kispotta grabbed a bronze in under-16 girls` discus with an effort of 35.41 metres.
